We Will Address Illegal Logging In Builsa South District - DCE Vows

The District Chief Executive for Builsa South, Hon. ELIZABETH JANE AFUIC has said she would do everything in her powers to curb illegal cutting down of trees in the district.

The DCE said this at the 10th Anniversary Celebration of Gbedema Association held in Kumasi on Sunday, 10th April, 2016 under the theme: PEACE AND UNITY, INGREDIENTS FOR DEVELOPING BULUK.

She bemoaned the rampant, illegal felling of trees in the district by strangers, describing it as a "difficult one", and vowed to deal with the situation head on in order to pre-empt further damage to the forest.

According to the DCE, the hunger for quick money on the part of the youth was the reason behind the diabolic act and called on all and sundry to support her in finding lasting solutions to the situation.

She blamed Chiefs in the district for not doing enough to help handle the menace. "Chiefs are part of the problem, they are major partners ". She asserted.

Hon. Afuic however, assured residents that plans were far advanced in halting the practice within the shortest possible time. Ever since the diabolic act began, she had held several meetings with community and opinion leaders, chiefs, assembly men and women in a quest to curb the unnecessary cutting down of trees within the district.

She assured the people of the district that the Regional Minister had also been informed and a formidable plan had been put in place to end the situation. According to her, they were working together as a team to eradicate the act. She, however, failed to reveal the said plans explaining it could jeopardize their effort in the long run if exposed.

She assured citizens of the district of her firm commitment to fighting the menace without fear or favour.

She has therefore passionately appealed to traditional and opinion leaders, as well as concerned residents (both home and abroad) to join the fight against the diabolic practice which threatens the green cover, damages the fauna and rainfall patterns, with attendant reduced farm yields.

She called on all to collaborate and work together as one in order to halt the practice within the shortest possible time.

Newly installed Builsa Naab in Ashanti Region, Chief Fusieni Azong called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of persons found culpable to serve as a deterrent to potential offenders.
